Song (To the Gilligan’s Island Theme)

There once was a patrol with six young men,

Who went to NYLT,

They came and sang and cheered all day,

Until they got pink epaulettes,

They got pink epaulettes

They gasped in shock at what they saw,

Their epaulettes did rock,

For what they was then soon dubbed,

The Pimpin’ Pink Whales,

The Pimpin’ Pink Whales

Chant

What do you do with a pink patrol,

What do you do with a pink patrol,

What do you do with a pink patrol while you’re at Westmoreland

Shout

Whale Ho!

So, you might be wondering "what did I just read?" and the answer comes in a short tale. Last summer, in my busy summer of Boy Scouting, I went to National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), which is basically training to lead a Boy Scout troop, and other leadership skills useful throughout life. There are lectures, games, and lots of singing and cheers. When you start off the week, you are put into a patrol of roughly six people, about your age, and have to come up with a name, flag, song, cheer, and shout for said patrol. Now when you start off the week, they give you some stuff for your uniform: a neckerchief and slider, and special (aka, nonstanderd green), epaulettes (they things that go on the shoulder flaps of the uniform). Now, throughout the week we saw ones with stripes and squiggiles, fancy gold designs, and lots of other little things like that. We (a group of of mainly 16 and 17 year old guys), got hot pink epaulettes spotted with green whales. We were inspired, and wanted it all whale themed. We wanted a sea chanty for a song, and all sorts of stuff. While tossing around name ideas (and fairly quickly), we came up with the Pimpin' Pink Whales, and thus, it had begun (Like A Whale! Inside joke...). I had kept the sea chanty idea in mind, and wasn't thinking of anything, until finally the tune hit me, and I started working from there, and the song was born. Don't really remember who first thought of the shout, but we instantly fell in love with it. Not sure about the chant either, but I think it was our military buff, but details, pfft.
What a week...
Edit: Added me singing, I sound horrible, but now you get the idea...
